Impressions of Cleveland

This series of creative photographic images grew from my desire to see Cleveland with new eyes. Moving beyond architecture and weather, I sought to capture the spirit of the city - the moods, rhythms, and impressions that reveal its deeper character, its resilience and beauty.

Personal Meaning

Coming from a different continent and country, my family eventually settled here in Cleveland, Ohio. Having visited many countries and immersed myself in diverse cultures, I initially struggled to connect with Cleveland. It is not a city known for grand architectural marvels, nor is its landscape vast or dramatic. My connection began with people - we found friends, built relationships, and bought a house. Yet, when it came to my passion for photographing landscapes, I found myself drawn to traveling across our beautiful country and abroad, seeking inspiration elsewhere.

It wasn’t until recently, after learning a new technique for photographing the sea and waves, that I decided to try it along the shores of Lake Erie. To my astonishment, I discovered that our lake can be just as unpredictable and photogenic as the ocean on the East Coast. This realization opened my eyes to the unique beauty of this place we now call home.

Through this journey, my vision for seeing Cleveland has evolved. It is no longer about grand sights or dramatic vistas but about capturing the impressions of this land - the essence of a place where we connect with people and nature as we are. Cleveland, with its quiet strength and subtle beauty, is a city I now see with pride - a place to call home, worthy of celebration through the lens.

Cleveland Impressions: Between Autumn and Steel

When most people think of Cleveland, they think of its skyline, its lakefront, its sports teams, or its industrial past. In this collection, I wanted to explore a different side of the city- one shaped by mood, color, and atmosphere.

These images were created during late autumn, when the warmth of summer has faded and winter quietly waits just around the corner. The brilliant reds, oranges, and golds of the season soften the cityscape and transform familiar places into something more contemplative.

For me, this time of year has always carried a special feeling. It is a season of slowing down, of shorter days and longer shadows. A season of cozy cafés, hot chocolate, mulled wine, apple cider, and the anticipation of holidays spent with family and friends.

Yet autumn is beautiful not only because of what comes next. It deserves to be appreciated for its own fleeting beauty- the last burst of color before winter settles in, the quiet moments between seasons, and the sense that the city itself is taking a deep breath.

Through these photographs, I invite you to experience Cleveland not simply as a place, but as a feeling.

Cleveland Impressions: Black and White

Color often tells us where we are. Black and white invites us to look deeper.

In this collection, Cleveland is stripped of its familiar palette and reduced to its essential elements: light and shadow, architecture and texture, movement and stillness. Without the distraction of color, the city's character emerges in different ways- through the geometry of its buildings, the rhythm of its streets, and the quiet moments hidden in everyday life.

Black-and-white photography has a timeless quality. It allows a modern city to feel both contemporary and historical, familiar and mysterious at the same time. A passing stranger, a weathered facade, a reflection in a window, a beam of light crossing a street- small details become the story.

Through monochrome tones and contrasts, I invite you to see the city a little differently- to slow down, look closer, and discover beauty in places that might otherwise go unnoticed.
